(Columbus, OH) March 17, 2021 – Franklin County Forensic Science Center, Office of the

Coroner released the final report documenting Casey Goodson Jr.’s fatal wounds and cause of death. Casey suffered six gunshot wounds in total, five to his back and one to his right buttock. The report confirms that Goodson was murdered by Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Meade on December 4, 2020.

We have known since the moment we found him on the kitchen floor that he was murdered. This report says it right there, Jason Meade murdered my son in his own home.

“Meade must be indicted, arrested, and convicted for Casey’s murder and that needs to happen with urgency,” Attorney Sean Walton, Partner with Walton + Brown and co-counsel for the Goodson family said. “This family and this city have been through enough trauma and our healing cannot begin until Meade is held accountable for this heinous act. Jason Meade is a threat to the community and public safety each and every day that he continues to be free.”

There is currently one criminal investigation underway through the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio. It is a joint criminal civil rights investigation being conducted by the FBI, the Columbus Division of Police, and the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General. The team investigating is working in partnership with the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice and the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office.

“Franklin County has had enough time to do the right thing,” Attorney Sarah Gelsomino, Partner with Friedman, Gilbert + Gerhardstein , and co-counsel for the Goodson family said. “Casey, his family, and the people of Columbus deserve justice. Meade had no justification to support killing Casey and no one who shoots a man in the back should remain a police officer. This report should lead to the immediate termination of Jason Meade from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.”
